Beate, 43, lives with her husband Uwe and their eight-year-old son Benjamin in a small town. On the surface, they appear to be an ordinary family—yet they are still reeling from the tragic bus accident that claimed the life of their eldest daughter, twelve-year-old Jana. The loss continues to weigh heavily on Beate, piercing through her daily life like a wound that refuses to heal.

When Benjamin is unexpectedly summoned to the police for questioning, Beate learns that her own son carries partial responsibility for the accident.

Anna lives with a mental and physical disability – diabetes and psychosis. Because of the nature of her disabilities, she’s unable to function independently, needing her brother, an experimental filmmaker, as her caregiver. Despite her illnesses, Anna is in denial about the seriousness of her condition as she does not believe in conventional medicine. She refuses to take any medications or treatments for either her mental or physical illness. She insists on natural treatments to build self-immunity, something her brother, John, tries hard to convince her against.

Anna has applied to end her disability benefits. A letter arrives indicating that her request has been fulfilled by the Disability Tribunal. Although previously fired from many past jobs, Anna believes she will find employment and support herself financially. This is a problem for her brother, John, who, as her caregiver, is reliant on her monthly benefits for their rent and basic needs. Frustrated, he gives her the ultimatum that she needs to hold a job and come up with the rent for the next month or she’ll have to appeal the decision by the upcoming deadline. Anna accepts the challenge. The film explores how Anna navigates the situation and the dynamics between the two siblings who have deep love for each other but also need to coexist despite very different values, hopes, wants, and desires.

When Danny Goode is released from prison after serving time for insider trading, he is keen to get back to his city-boy life as soon as possible. But stripped of his trading license and with a criminal record he soon learns that he can’t get his old life back.

With the help of his old friend Jon, Danny returns to his home-town and tries to reconnect with his ex-wife Chloe and their son Ben. With no job he starts washing pots in Jon’s restaurant run by Jon, and helps at the boxing club where they used to train as teenagers.

There, Danny meets Billy Foster, a local promoter who runs a £10,000 winner-take-all unlicensed boxing match. Desperate for cash, Danny challenges the prizefighter, setting himself up for an unlicensed fight against a formidable opponent.

As Danny trains towards his fight, the former city-boy must learn that people and relationships are more important than money, and what is really worth fighting for.

Canadian singer-songwriter, Jessica Spurrell’s award-winning song, Bury Me is given life by the students in the Humber Polytechnic Virtual Production Graduate Certificate in an ICVFX virtual production pipeline to produce a music video entirely in an LED Volume at Humber’s Lakeshore campus.

In their first semester of a two-term program, students embarked on the ambitious project to collaborate with Canadian singer-songwriter, Jessica Spurrell, to produce a music video of her award-winning single, Bury Me, through Virtual Production, specifically the in-camera visual effects pipeline known as ICVFX. The song, Bury Me, follows Jessica’s acceptance of the ephemeral nature of love, and how often, the difference between what we can hold onto and what we have to ‘bury’ is beyond our control. The ‘bury’ and the ‘hold onto’ segments are visualized through two digital environments, created by the student Virtual Art Direction (VAD) Team, which were blended with foreground production design.

All VP aspects of the production were performed by students in the following roles: VP Producer, VP Supervisor, Engine Operator, Tracking TD, Systems Operator, and VP Production Designers.

The program uniquely enables students to simulate the professional work environment, by bringing on senior mentors in key creative roles, including the Writer/Director, Jacqueline Elyse Rosenthal, who developed the creative concept, early storyboard, shot list and script so that the students could start breaking down the script in the first few weeks of their semester. Additionally, the students worked with veteran Director of Photography, Gregor Hagey, CSC, who brought his decades of cinematography experience to the production.

The students collaborated with songwriter Jessica Spurrell to bring her song, Bury Me, to life from the creation of cinematics, previs, and VAD using Unreal Engine and the FAB marketplace. They also worked with a Production Design Mentor, Nuala O’Flynn, who helped the team blend the virtual environments with foreground set construction, via strategic and ICVFX-adapted art direction.

The film music video, Bury Me, shows only Jessica Spurrell, singing in two different settings - a blue lagoon and a dream cabin, which were produced by two respective crews.
